4 Ways I Cover Events
Camera Handheld
This is best when there is lots of moving around required and constant lens changes are needed to get the best results. Has more of a documentary feel. With that said, I don’t use this that often at events as it’s the worst option for smooth footage.
using gimbal (stabilizer)
This is the most common way I capture smooth, quality footage at events, while being able to move quick and include camera movements to the end videos. From weddings dances to tracking a walking interview. This is the best option. Only two negatives are that lens changes require rebalancing of the gimbal and this way of recording is physically demanding…. which I don’t mind.
using monopod
This is best when there is lots of moving around required but all shots are still captured stationary. Along with the gimbal this is my usual go to set-up. doesn’t require rebalancing like the gimbal, so lens changes can be done quickly for best results.
using tripod
This is best when smooth footage is the goal, while recording is required from one spot for many hours.
this is usually done on a long zoom lens to get nice wide shots and zoom ins on the close ups.
